A new take on the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is being shopped around with Peacock, Netflix, and HBO Max all taking interest. Bel-Air takes the original story and puts a dramatic twist on it while bringing the show to current times.
We first got a look at Bel-Air back in 2019 via the fan trailer that has over 5 million views. It’s safe to say that the show has caught the public’s eye. The trailer even caught the eye of Ashley Banks herself with Tatyana Ali commenting.
Will Smith even chimed in giving his take on Bel-Air via a YouTube post “How I Really Feel About That Bel-Air Trailer”. In the video Will Smith interviews Morgan Cooper then man behind the trailer. The two go back and forth speaking on the inspiration of this fresh take. They also speak on all the possible directions the show can go.
“The dramatic version of these ideas means that you can use existing storylines, but it’s not going to seem like you’re redoing an episode because the storylines’s going to be brand new, from the dramatic perspective."
Morgan is set to co-write the script, direct, and executive produce along with the producers and creators of the original series. There is currently no word on Will Smith having a role in the new show.
