This is not a drill, Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as Tony Stark aka Ironman says Jeff Goldblum. There is however a twist. Downey is said to return as Ironman for the ‘What If...’ series on Disney+.
How does Goldblum know this? The actor voiced the Grandmaster in MCU films Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and told BuzzFeed he was called in to voice his character for a What If...? episode in which Downey and Taika Waititi (as Korg) were also participating.
The actors will just be providing voices, since the series is animated. The What If...? series, based on the Marvel comics of the same name, will imagine what would happen if major MCU moments unfolded differently.
The first episode is said to envision Peggy Carter, NOT Steve Rogers, getting the Captain America Super Soldier Serum, and Steve Rogers instead donning a Howard Stark-built suit of armor.
Now don’t get too excited folks. Also don’t get to comfortable with the fact that you will hear Downey anytime soon. The What If... series isn’t set to premier until sometime 2021. There has however been a rumor floating around that the ‘Black Window‘ film, set to release in May 2020, will have an appearance of some kind from the invincible Ironman himself Tony Stark. Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, this film plays as a prequel before the “snapping” and the “Endgame” which saved the universe!
Boy do we hope this is true.
