[TRAILER]: 'BREADWINNER' - Nate Bargatze Makes His Feature Film Debut in Sony’s Family Comedy

By Klep Napier | Wearecritix.com

While digging through upcoming releases and studio slates, we came across a project that immediately stood out, not just for its premise, but for the faces we’re finally getting to see. Sony has unveiled first-look images and official Trailer from its upcoming family comedy Breadwinner, offering an early glimpse at record-breaking comedian Nate Bargatze in his first-ever feature film role. The film is set to arrive exclusively in theaters on March 13, 2026, and these images give us our clearest sense yet of the tone and energy audiences can expect.

The newly released stills introduce us to Bargatze’s character, Nate Wilcox, a lifelong provider whose routine is completely upended when his wife Katie, played by Mandy Moore, lands a once-in-a-lifetime deal on Shark Tank. With Katie away on a prolonged business trip, Nate suddenly finds himself navigating the unpredictable world of stay-at-home parenting, juggling three young daughters and responsibilities he’s never had to manage before. The images lean into that contrast, balancing grounded family moments with the kind of observational humor Bargatze is known for.

Directed by Eric Appel and written by Nate Bargatze alongside Dan Lagana, Breadwinner appears to keep its comedy rooted in real-life situations rather than broad exaggeration. The supporting cast adds even more texture, with Colin Jost, Zach Cherry, Martin Herlihy, Kate Berlant, plus Kumail Nanjiani and Will Forte rounding out an ensemble that blends stand-up, sketch, and character-driven comedy. The first-look images tease a dynamic household full of chaos, warmth, and awkward learning curves.

Behind the scenes, the film is produced by Jeremy Latcham, Bargatze, and Lagana, with executive producers JoAnn Perritano, Michael Musgrave, and Tyler Zacharia. While the film has not yet received its official Motion Picture Association rating, its positioning as a family comedy suggests broad appeal for audiences looking for something light, relatable, and heartfelt.

What makes Breadwinner especially intriguing at first glance is how naturally Bargatze’s comedic persona seems to translate into this role. The images hint at a story that explores shifting family roles, modern parenthood, and the humor that comes from learning on the fly, all without losing its emotional grounding.

Breadwinner opens exclusively in movie theaters on March 13, 2026. With first-look images now available and more to come, this is a debut worth keeping an eye on as Sony rolls out one of its more grounded, family-focused comedies of the year.
