In our Limited Run Games interview, At PAX East 2026, we made it a priority to get hands-on with one of the most interesting players in the physical gaming space right now: Limited Run Games. With major titles like Marvel Maximum heating up and a brand-new Masters of the Universe game on the horizon, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect, especially with Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe film set to hit theaters June 5.
So naturally, we had to ask the question: was this all part of a bigger strategy, or just perfect timing?
I caught up with Limited Run Games Marketing Manager Jeremy Campbell to dig into that, and what we got was a deeper look into how nostalgia, fan demand, and smart adaptation are shaping the future of their releases.
Built on Nostalgia, Driven by Fans
One thing became clear almost immediately. Limited Run Games is not just chasing trends. They are chasing feeling.
Campbell spoke candidly about his own connection to retro gaming, emphasizing how much of their direction comes from both personal experience and community feedback.
“I’m constantly longing for things of the past, retro games, things I played as a kid, stuff that made me happy… nothing beats those childhood experiences.”
That philosophy is not just talk. It is embedded into how Limited Run operates. From dedicated fan feedback channels, including their active Discord community, to carefully selecting which titles deserve a physical revival, the audience plays a direct role in shaping what comes next.
And that is the key difference. This is not nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It is curated nostalgia built alongside the fans who lived it.
Modern Feel, Classic DNA
Bringing retro games into a modern space comes with its own set of challenges. But for Limited Run, the goal is not reinvention. It is preservation with intention.
Campbell broke it down simply. The core of these games remains untouched.
“The first thing is to make sure the game isn’t changed… the core fundamentals are intact the way they were.”
What does evolve are the quality-of-life features. Think rewind mechanics, updated control responsiveness, and the ability to pause and return. Small additions that make these experiences more accessible without stripping away what made them special in the first place.
It is a delicate balance, but one that Limited Run clearly understands. Respect the past while making it playable for today.
Masters of the Universe: Coincidence or Calculated Timing?
With a new Masters of the Universe film on the way, the obvious question had to be asked. Was the game release timed to align with the movie?
According to Campbell, not exactly.
“The timing of the movie though, you know, coincidence. When I knew about the movie is when I saw the first trailer come out like everybody else.”
That said, the synergy is undeniable.
From what we experienced during gameplay, Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction leans heavily into what fans love about the franchise. Each character offers unique playstyles, and the overall feel captures something surprisingly tactile.
Campbell described it best.
“It’s like you’re almost playing with action figures.”
That alone tells you everything about the design philosophy. This is about bringing imagination back into your hands.
Replay Value and Fan-First Design
Another standout element is how the game encourages replayability. With multiple characters, varied playstyles, and a design rooted in experimentation, this is not a one-and-done experience.
But even more importantly, Limited Run continues to operate with a forward-thinking mindset rooted in community feedback.
“Fans have always been most important… but they’re even more important now.”
That line stuck with me, because it speaks to a company that is not just listening, but actively evolving based on what players want next.
The Marvel Factor and What’s Next
While details on Marvel Maximum remain under wraps, Campbell hinted that fans should be paying close attention to what is coming later this year.
The kitchen is always active, as he put it. And if this current slate is any indication, Limited Run is not slowing down anytime soon.

Final Thoughts
Whether this was coincidence or perfect timing, one thing is clear. Limited Run Games understands the assignment.
They are not just reviving games. They are reviving experiences.
And in a world where IP is constantly being reimagined across film, TV, and gaming, it is refreshing to see a studio that knows when to honor what came before and when to gently evolve it for a new generation.
As movie and TV lovers here at CritiX, we love seeing our favorite IPs expand into new mediums. And if this is the direction things are heading, we are all in.
