Updated: Jun 27, 2019

Earlier today it was announced by Sony Pictures Television and Hivemind Entertainment that a live-action Final Fantasy TV series will be developed in partnership with Square Enix. The series will be based on the popular online game Final Fantasy XIV.

The upcoming series will depict the original story and setting of Final Fantasy XIV. According to the press release the series will explore

“the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.”

The series is still in its early stages of pre-production and writing with no current release date. There is also no word on the cast and you will be hard pressed to find what network or streaming platform Final Fantasy XIV will be available for.

We can only assume the ones running the show may be shopping the series around looking for the best possible situation. Final Fantasy XIV will feature the classic elements of the franchise such as Magitek, Beastmen, Airships, Chocobos, and the appearance of Cid one of the cornerstone characters of the franchise.

It’s too early to make any predictions on the success of the upcoming series but fans everywhere of Final Fantasy should be excited.
