Spider-Man: Now Way Home Director Jon Watts Joins New Line's HBO Max Movie ‘Final Destination 6!’

Updated: May 21, 2024

After raking in $1.5 billion at the box office with Sony/Marvel's sequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, it appears that filmmaker Jon Watts is diving into the horror genre with New Line’s Final Destination 6 as a producer. Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick are writing the screenplay from a story by Watts based on his treatment.

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning,” , so to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

Watts said in a statement this morning.

In total the horror franchise has earned over $700 Million world-wide, making it New Line’s third biggest horror franchise behind the $2 billion Conjuring universe and the It movies which grossed over $1 billion.

The Final Destination films follow a group teens as they avoid Death literally. Unlike most teen-slasher films, the main antagonist is Death personified as a paranormal boogey man sealing the fate of these young individuals.

The original producer of the previous five Final Destination movies Craig Perry is also returning with Sheila Hanahan Taylor. In addition to Watts, Dianne McGunigle also joins the producing team.
