[TRAILER]: 'The Sheep Detectives' - Hugh Jackman Leads a Woolly Whodunit for Amazon MGM Studios

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the official trailer for one of its most delightfully unexpected upcoming releases, The Sheep Detectives, a family-friendly mystery-comedy starring Hugh Jackman. Set to arrive exclusively in theaters on May 8, 2026, the film blends classic whodunit storytelling with a playful, imaginative twist that proves not all great detectives walk on two legs.

Based on the novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, The Sheep Detectives introduces audiences to George, a gentle shepherd played by Jackman who reads detective novels aloud to his flock each night, fully convinced they cannot understand a word. When a mysterious incident upends life on the farm, George suddenly finds himself surrounded by suspects. What he does not realize is that the sheep have been listening all along and are more than ready to crack the case themselves.

The newly released official trailer leans into the film’s charm and offbeat humor, teasing a clever mystery wrapped in warmth, wit, and visual whimsy. With its storybook tone and layered comedy, the film positions itself as a rare family offering that appeals equally to younger viewers and adults who enjoy smart, cozy mysteries with a twist.

The film is directed by Kyle Balda and features a screenplay and screen story by Craig Mazin, a pairing that suggests a careful balance between heartfelt storytelling and sharp comedic instincts. Together, they steer The Sheep Detectives toward a tone that takes its absurd premise seriously without ever losing its sense of fun.

Joining Jackman is a stacked ensemble that includes Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, with Hong Chau and Emma Thompson, alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein, and Rhys Darby. The cast lineup alone signals a film designed around character-driven humor and ensemble chemistry.

Produced by Lindsay Doran, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner, and presented by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Working Title Films and Three Strange Angels, The Sheep Detectives is rated PG for thematic material, some violent content, and brief language. It arrives as a rare studio comedy that embraces originality, heart, and a little bit of weirdness.

The Sheep Detectives opens exclusively in theaters on May 8, 2026. With an inventive premise, an all-star cast, and a trailer that confidently leans into its peculiar charm, this is one mystery that looks ready to charm audiences of all ages.
