Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Superman Red Son Possibly Appearing in Peacemaker Season 2?

By Klep Napier | WeAreCritiX.com

For weeks, fans of Peacemaker Season 2 have been dissecting Easter eggs, multiverse references, and hidden nods to the wider DCU. But with all the chatter about James Gunn’s direction for the new DC Studios timeline and the announcement that Peacemaker Season 2 has a HUGE cameo is on its way, there’s one theory we can’t believe isn’t dominating fan speculation: could the DC classic Superman: Red Son be quietly on its way into the series?

Earth-X Sets the Stage

Episode 6 dropped a bombshell when it revealed that Earth-X is a white supremacist world, echoing its classic comics counterpart where fascism had taken over. This wasn’t just a throwaway detail. It recontextualized how alternate Earths might be framed in the DCU going forward. If one universe can be defined by ideology and twisted social order, why not others? That’s exactly the premise of Red Son, the Elseworlds story that asked, What if Superman landed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas?

Warner Bros. Animation even brought Superman: Red Son to life in a 2020 animated feature, offering fans a faithful yet streamlined adaptation of Mark Millar’s celebrated Elseworlds tale. The film dives into Superman’s Soviet upbringing, his clash with an American-led resistance spearheaded by Lex Luthor, and the global ripple effects of his ideology. For those who want to see this alternate take on the Man of Steel in action, the animated movie is available to stream now on HBO Max, giving both longtime comic readers and newcomers a chance to experience one of DC’s boldest Superman stories in vivid animation.

The Ideology Connection

At their core, both Earth-X and Red Son take Superman’s mythos and refract it through the lens of political ideology. Earth-X weaponizes racism and fascism. Red Son examines authoritarian communism. By introducing Earth-X, Gunn has already proven he’s willing to let ideology shape the multiverse. And that makes a Red Son cameo or nod in Peacemaker Season 2 feel a lot more plausible than people might think.

The Episode 7 Teaser Clue

And then there’s the teaser for Episode 7. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a shadowy figure with a broad-shouldered, cape-like silhouette, and a voice that sounded very familiar. To us, the cadence and build screamed David Corenswet, the actor who will be suiting up as Superman in Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. Could this be our first look at Corenswet in an alternate role, perhaps as a Red Son-inspired variant?

Why Fans Aren’t Speculating (Yet)

So why hasn’t the fandom latched onto this? Maybe because it feels too bold to imagine Gunn debuting a variant Superman before Corenswet has even officially donned the cape in his solo film. But if there’s anything we’ve learned from Peacemaker, it’s that Gunn thrives on mischief, shock, and planting seeds that grow across the DCU. Just because it seems unlikely doesn’t mean it isn’t hiding in plain sight.

A Clever Way to Test the Waters

If Episode 7 does give us a Red Son tease, it wouldn’t be a full introduction. More likely it would be a wink, a cameo, or a quick multiverse glimpse. This would let Gunn test audience reaction to the concept without derailing his mainline Superman movie. It would also underline Peacemaker’s role as a sandbox for bigger DCU experiments.

Why It Matters for the DCU

Bringing Red Son into the fold would be more than fan service. It would expand the DCU’s multiverse with depth and commentary, just like the comics did. Earth-X has already shown us how ugly ideology-driven worlds can get. Introducing Red Son would show us the other side of that coin, a Superman who believes he’s saving the world but under the shadow of authoritarian rule. For a series that balances absurdity, grit, and political bite, Peacemaker Season 2 is the perfect place to start that conversation.

So what do you think? Did Episode 7 tease a Soviet Superman? Is Gunn pulling the wool over our eyes again, or is the DCU about to embrace one of its most iconic Elseworlds? Either way, we’ll be watching closely because in a world where even Peacemaker can cross paths with multiversal ideologies, nothing is off the table.

New Episodes of Peacemaker episodes stream on HBOMax every Thursday at 9pm.
