There are comedies… and then there are comedies that just completely throw caution to the wind and say, yeah, we’re going all in. That’s exactly the energy surrounding Balls Up, the latest outrageous project from director Peter Farrelly, and after checking out the newly released red-band trailer, it’s clear this one is not holding anything back.
Front and center, you’ve got Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser leading the charge as two marketing executives who find themselves in way over their heads. What starts as a bold, borderline ridiculous idea quickly spirals into something much bigger, much messier, and way more dangerous than either of them could have imagined.
At the heart of Balls Up is a pitch so absurd it somehow feels genius. Brad and Elijah decide to go all out by proposing a full-coverage condom sponsorship tied to the World Cup. Yes, you read that right. And in true Farrelly fashion, what follows is a chain reaction of chaos that takes this concept to the absolute extreme. After a drunken celebration in Brazil ignites an international scandal, the duo is suddenly on the run, trying to dodge angry fans, criminals, and powerful figures all while attempting to salvage their careers.
The trailer leans fully into that over-the-top, no-filter comedy style that Peter Farrelly is known for, blending outrageous humor with high-stakes absurdity. But what really sells it is the chemistry between Wahlberg and Hauser. They feel like the kind of mismatched duo that thrives in chaos, and the energy between them looks like it’s going to carry this film from start to finish.
Beyond the leads, the supporting cast adds even more fuel to the fire. With names like Benjamin Bratt, Eva De Dominici, and Daniela Melchior, along with appearances from Molly Shannon, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Eric André, this lineup is stacked with personalities that can match the film’s wild tone. And with a script from Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, you already know the humor is going to push boundaries in the best way possible.
Produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Andrew Muscato, Wernick, and Reese, Balls Up comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance, bringing together a team that clearly isn’t afraid to take big swings.
If the trailer is any indication, this is shaping up to be one of those comedies that fully embraces its chaos and dares audiences to keep up. It’s loud, it’s ridiculous, and it looks like it’s going to be a whole lot of fun.
Balls Up begins streaming globally on Prime Video April 15.
