Dear Evan Hansen, the film, has already stacked its cast with the likes of Hollywood big names like Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, the fierce Amandla Stenberg [The Hate You Give, The Hunger Games], and lead Ben Platt [Pitch Perfect, The Politician and Dear Evan Hansen: Broadway]. Now, the film adaptation has cast newcomer Liz Kate, as recently announced in Variety and updated on the film’s IMDB.
This role will be the first major studio supporting role for the Atlanta based actor. Liz Kate is a sophomore songwriting major at the prestigious music college, Belmont University in Nashville, TN. According to her website, lizkate.com “she began singing and playing guitar at the young age of five and booked her first acting role by age six.”
“Dear Evan Hansen,” a Tony-award winning musical, opened on Broadway in 2016. The story follows a high schooler with social anxiety who gets caught up in a lie after a classmate’s family mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note. The Play is filled with messages and light humor about fitting in, depression and finding your place through numerous musical numbers, written by Justin Paul & Benj Pasek.
The Universal Film Adaption, directed by Stephen Chbosky, is said to mirror a lot of the original storyline, but with a closer look into the characters personal lives.
