The Joker R rating has finally been confirmed by the MPAA, and it’s for all the reasons you would expect.
It has been promised for ages that the Joker movie would receive an R rating, and it has now been confirmed by the film’s website. The listed reasons include:
STRONG BLOODY VIOLENCE, DISTURBING BEHAVIOR, LANGUAGE AND BRIEF SEXUAL IMAGES
Joker has been rumored to target an R rating since well before production began, but it always takes the MPAA to put its stamp on the film to make it official.
The earliest projections for the opening weekend box office pegged the film to open $60 to $90 million range. That forecast has now increased to the $70 million to $95 million range, but it is still considered long-range and uncertain. There was a time when an R rating would impact a film negatively, especially a comic book film. That, however, all changed with Deadpool, and while these films couldn’t be any more different in tone, it certainly opened a door.
Joker is currently gearing up for the 2020 festival season and will be in competition at the Venice Film Festival. This will be followed up by inclusion at the Toronto International Film Festival where Joaquin Phoenix will also receive an acting award.
Joaquin Phoenix is said to have portrayed a hell of a Clown Prince of Crime. We cannot wait to see for ourselves!
Joker will hit theaters on Oct. 4.
