Jon Bernthal and Reinaldo Marcus Green Host Special New York Screening for ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’

Marvel’s most brutal antihero officially took over New York this week.

Jon Bernthal and director/co-writer Reinaldo Marcus Green hosted a special fan screening of Marvel Television’s The Punisher: One Last Kill last night at AMC Lincoln Square Cinemas in New York, celebrating the release of the highly talked-about Disney+ Special Presentation. Alongside the event, Marvel also unveiled a brand-new poster and promotional spot for the project as audiences continue reacting to what many are calling the bloodiest story the MCU has delivered to date.

And honestly, the response has been hard to ignore.

Frank Castle Returns to the MCU Spotlight

The Punisher: One Last Kill marks Jon Bernthal’s latest return as Frank Castle, a character audiences have long considered one of Marvel’s most emotionally raw and violent creations. But unlike previous appearances alongside Daredevil and other street-level heroes, this Special Presentation places Frank directly back at the center of the story.

This time, however, the narrative appears more introspective.

According to Marvel, the story follows Frank Castle as he searches for meaning beyond revenge before an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight once again. That emotional framing has become one of the project’s most praised elements, balancing brutal action with a deeper exploration of Frank’s trauma and fractured sense of purpose.

And if audience reactions are anything to go by, Marvel may have finally found the perfect tone for the character within the MCU.

Jon Bernthal’s Creative Influence Continues Growing

One of the most exciting developments surrounding One Last Kill is Bernthal’s increased creative involvement behind the scenes.

Not only does he reprise his role as Frank Castle, but Bernthal also co-wrote the Special Presentation alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. That added creative influence is something fans are already pointing to as a major reason the project feels more emotionally grounded and authentic to the character’s darker comic roots.

Bernthal has long spoken about his deep connection to Frank Castle, and One Last Kill reflects that understanding throughout its storytelling. The project doesn’t simply lean into violence for spectacle. Instead, it frames Frank as a deeply broken man wrestling with whether vengeance is the only thing he has left.

That emotional complexity has always been essential to The Punisher.

And this Special Presentation appears fully aware of it.

Marvel Honors Military Communities with Special Screenings

In addition to the New York event, Disney and Marvel Television also hosted advance screenings for military service members at Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune last week.

That decision feels particularly fitting given Frank Castle’s military background and the character’s long-standing connection to themes of trauma, brotherhood, violence, and survival. While The Punisher has always existed within the superhero genre, the character’s emotional identity has often been tied more closely to grounded human conflict than larger-than-life fantasy storytelling.

Those screenings also highlight Marvel’s growing confidence in the Special Presentation format itself, which allows the studio to tell more focused, character-driven stories outside the structure of full theatrical films or traditional television seasons.

A New Poster and Clip Showcase the Brutality Ahead

To celebrate the release, Marvel also dropped a brand-new poster and promotional spot teasing more of the chaos awaiting audiences inside One Last Kill.

The footage continues leaning heavily into the project’s darker atmosphere, showcasing Frank Castle operating at his most dangerous while teasing the emotional burden driving him forward. The marketing makes one thing very clear:

This is not a sanitized version of The Punisher.

Marvel is fully embracing the brutality, intensity, and psychological damage tied to Frank Castle in ways the MCU has rarely explored before.

And fans seem more than ready for it.

The Future of The Punisher Looks Promising

With Bernthal now creatively involved behind the scenes and audience reactions overwhelmingly positive, The Punisher: One Last Kill increasingly feels less like a one-off special and more like the beginning of something larger.

Marvel Studios has spent years slowly rebuilding its street-level corner of the MCU through projects like Daredevil: Born Again, and Frank Castle’s return instantly adds a more dangerous edge to that world.

The biggest question now isn’t whether audiences want more Punisher.

It’s how far Marvel is willing to go with him moving forward.

Marvel Television’s The Punisher: One Last Kill is now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
