['MERCY' FEATURETTE]: Chris Pratt Faces an A.I. Judge in Amazon MGM Studios’ High-Stakes Thriller!

Amazon MGM Studios has dropped a brand-new first look at MERCY, the upcoming sci-fi action thriller starring Chris Pratt in one of his most intense roles to date. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and filmed for IMAX and 3D, the film pushes viewers into a near-future world where justice is no longer in human hands and time is the only currency that matters. With a chilling premise centered on artificial intelligence gone judicial, MERCY is shaping up to be one of 2026’s biggest theatrical events.

Before we go deeper, check out the new featurette giving fans their first real look at MERCY’s high-concept world, explosive action, and Pratt’s most vulnerable performance yet.

In MERCY, Pratt plays a detective on trial for the murder of his wife. His judge is Mercy, an advanced A.I. system played by Rebecca Ferguson, whose cold precision and unemotional rulings have become the new standard for criminal justice. The twist? He helped champion the creation of this technology… and now he’s racing against a brutal 90-minute countdown to prove his innocence before the very machine he once believed in decides his fate. The supporting cast is stacked, including Kali Reis, Annabelle Wallis, Chris Sullivan, and Kylie Rogers, all adding layers to the film’s conspiracy-driven mystery.

The newly released featurette highlights the film’s massive action scale, practical and digital integration, and the ethical questions at its core. Bekmambetov brings his signature high-energy, visually immersive filmmaking to the project, blending grounded emotion with futuristic spectacle. Pratt himself teases that the film is best experienced in full 3D IMAX, hinting at sequences engineered specifically for a heightened theatrical experience. Between the futuristic legal system, the relentless ticking clock, and the emotional weight of the mystery, this thriller is aiming to hit audiences on multiple levels.

MERCY comes from Atlas Entertainment and Bazelevs, written by Marco van Belle and produced by Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, Timur Bekmambetov, and Majd Nassif. With its blend of science fiction, action, suspense, and character-driven drama, the film looks poised to spark conversation about responsibility, innovation, and the dangers of surrendering truth to algorithms.

MERCY hits theaters everywhere on January 23, 2026, playing exclusively in cinemas and filmed for premium formats including IMAX 3D. Fans can catch the thriller only on the big screen when it arrives.
