It has been three long years since Netflix first introduced you to Atlanta's newest superhero, Dion Warren, in the live action adaptation of Dennis Liu's Comic Book series "Raising Dion". The Netflix series, just as the comic book, follows the story of Nicole Warren (Alisha Wainwright) and her son Dion (Ja'Siah Young) after Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Life was hard enough keeping up with the bills, let alone trying to keep track of her son’s invisibility, plasma powers, and telekinesis.
Series Recap: *Spoilers ahead*
In the finale of season one which also starred Michael B. Jordan, who also serves as Executive Producer on the series, we get Dion's some-what of an origin story which starts before he was born. In 2010, Pat Rollins (Jason Ritter) and Mark Warren -Dion's Dad (Michael B. Jordan) experience what was known as the “Iceland Event.” With radiation levels off the charts, we see Pat getting hit by strange, almost ash-like projectiles. They scorch parts of his skin and, of course, give him strange powers. Fast forward to the third act of the episode, we also find out that Pat was actually the “Crooked Man,” or “The Man in the Storm.” In addition to crossing the line with Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), he instigated a fight with Charlotte Tuck (Deirdre Lovejoy), which closed the episode out. *Spoilers done*
The series' first season received a 71% rating average among audiences, so most will be be just as excited as we are to know that the 8 episode season 2 is just around the corner and Season 2 will introduce us to more characters, more superpowers and more of the tender family drama that made Raising Dion so endearing to viewers in 2019.
What Is Season Two About?:
Two years after defeating the Crooked Man (Jason Ritter), Season Two follows Dion as he continues honing his powers with the support of his mom and Tevin (Rome Flynn), his Biona trainer who catches Nicole’s eye. After befriending new student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner) — a fellow powered kid — a series of alarming events unfold, and Dion learns that danger is still looming. Navigating twists, turns, and surprise visitors, Dion and Nicole must prevail again — not just to save themselves, but the entire city of Atlanta.
