2002 Poured new life into the Wes Craven's Scream franchise. Even with the return of O.G. Cast members, fans took to all the new comers better than most would have expected. So much in fact, Scream 6 is now in the works with a June 2022 production date.
But with all of the Scream 6 good news , there is a little bit of bad. It's being said that one MAJOR key player will not be returning and unhappy about the offer made for her to return.
This comes from an interview with Deadline who says the franchise vet revealed she turned down the opportunity to return for the upcoming horror sequel due to feeling underwhelmed by the payment offered by producers.
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."
Since 1996 Campbell has carried the franchise through numerous and successful sequels and even 26 years later, has proven her presence still matters in this universe.
One could argue she has a point in her stance. We just hope with or without Campbell, Matt Bettinelli-Opin and Tyler Gillett continue to do Wes and his fans proud.
More to come.
