Erika Woods Explores Pops' Darkest Moment Yet While Shameik Moore Begins Building the Legend of Breeze
By Klep Napier | WeAreCritiX.com
After years of anticipation, Power Book III: Raising Kanan has officially returned for its fifth and final season, and if the explosive premiere is any indication, fans should prepare themselves for a season filled with revelations, shifting alliances, and long-awaited answers.
Among the biggest talking points entering Season 5 are two characters who couldn't be more different.
One is a familiar face whose quiet strength finally exploded into action.
The other is a name that Power fans have been hearing about for years.
Pops and Breeze.
For longtime viewers, both characters represent major pieces of the Power Universe puzzle, and following the Season 5 premiere, audiences are already beginning to understand just how important each will be to Kanan Stark's final chapter.
When we recently sat down with Erika Woods and Shameik Moore, the conversation centered around Pops' shocking evolution, Breeze's long-awaited arrival, and how both characters are helping reshape the future of Raising Kanan.
Spoiler Warning: Season 4 Finale Discussion Ahead
Before continuing, it's worth noting that the following section contains discussion of major events from the Season 4 finale.
If you're still catching up on Raising Kanan, now might be a good time to bookmark this page and return later.
Pops Finally Revealed What She Was Capable Of

For much of her time on Raising Kanan, Pops has served as one of the more grounded and stabilizing forces within the show's increasingly chaotic world.
While other characters have often relied on violence, manipulation, or intimidation, Pops has typically operated with patience, wisdom, and restraint.
That's exactly why her actions in the Season 4 finale landed with such force.
The moment in question, which saw Pops kill Kanan's girlfriend, instantly became one of the most shocking turns of the series and dramatically altered how audiences view the character moving forward.
According to Erika Woods, that moment wasn't surprising at all.
In fact, she had been waiting years for it.
Woods revealed that she always believed there was a tougher, more dangerous side of Pops simmering beneath the surface. Growing up around strong women who handled business when necessary, she felt that instinct had always existed inside the character.
"I've been waiting for that for two seasons. I felt that percolating in Pops."
What makes the moment so effective isn't simply the violence itself.
It's what it represents.
For the first time, audiences are forced to reevaluate everything they thought they knew about Pops. Suddenly, she isn't simply a source of wisdom or comic relief within the Thomas family orbit. She's someone capable of making devastating decisions when circumstances demand it.
And heading into Season 5, that changes everything.
The stakes feel higher.
The consequences feel heavier.
And viewers are left wondering what else Pops may be willing to do when pushed into a corner.
Watch Our Full Interview with Erika Woods and Shameik Moore
Erika Woods and Shameik Moore join WeAreCritiX to discuss Season 5 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Pops' shocking evolution, and what it means to finally bring Breeze into the Power Universe.
So... Who Is Breeze?
Few names carry more weight within the Power Universe than Breeze.

Long before his arrival on screen, fans have spent years speculating about the man responsible for helping shape Kanan, Ghost, and Tommy into the figures audiences came to know in the original series.
The mythology surrounding Breeze has only grown larger with time.
Now, Shameik Moore faces the challenge of bringing that legend to life.
It's not an easy assignment.
Unlike many characters entering an established franchise, Breeze arrives with years of fan expectations already attached to him. Everyone has their own idea of who Breeze should be, what he should sound like, and how he should carry himself.
For Moore, the key wasn't creating a character from scratch.
It was studying the people Breeze helped create.
One of the most fascinating insights from our conversation came when Moore explained that his version of Breeze draws inspiration from the characters who would eventually become his students.
Ghost.
Tommy.
Kanan.
All of them.
"Tommy, Ghost, and Kanan... they're students of Breeze in a way. All of them had to be seen in my character and in my delivery."
That perspective instantly makes Breeze more interesting.
Rather than arriving as a larger-than-life gangster, Moore approaches him as the connective tissue between multiple generations of Power storytelling. Every conversation, every decision, and every lesson Breeze imparts carries additional significance because audiences already know the people those lessons will eventually shape.
It's a balancing act between honoring franchise lore while still creating a character capable of standing on his own.
So far, Moore appears more than ready for the challenge.
A Character Built Through Presence
One thing that becomes immediately apparent whenever Breeze appears on screen is that his influence doesn't come from intimidation alone.
It comes from presence.
Moore spoke about wanting Breeze to feel lived-in from the moment audiences met him. That's easier said than done when stepping into a series where most of the cast has already spent multiple seasons developing their characters.
Yet Breeze immediately feels like someone who belongs.
Part of that comes from Moore's performance. Part comes from his understanding that Breeze's greatest weapon may be how disarming he appears.
There's a calm confidence to him.
A smile that doesn't quite reveal everything.
A charisma that makes people comfortable right before they realize they're standing next to someone far more dangerous than they initially assumed.
For a character whose name has carried legendary status among fans for years, that's exactly the type of introduction viewers were hoping for.
The Premiere Raises More Questions Than Answers
If the Season 5 premiere accomplishes anything, it's proving that Raising Kanan still knows how to keep audiences guessing.
Both Woods and Moore agreed that viewers should prepare for surprises.
The kind of surprises that make you think you understand what's happening only to realize you don't.
Loose ends begin tightening.
Relationships shift.
Assumptions get challenged.
And just when audiences believe they have figured out where the story is heading, the writers pull the rug out from under them.
It's one of the reasons Raising Kanan continues to stand among the strongest entries in the Power Universe.
The show understands that anticipation is just as powerful as revelation.
The Final Season Is Just Getting Started
The arrival of Pops' darker side and Breeze's long-awaited introduction represents two very different but equally important developments for Raising Kanan.
One forces audiences to reevaluate a character they've known for years.
The other finally introduces a legend whose shadow has loomed over the franchise since the beginning.
Together, they help establish what already feels like one of the most important seasons in Power history.
And if the premiere is any indication, viewers should buckle up.
Because Season 5 is wasting absolutely no time.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 is now airing on STARZ, with new episodes premiering weekly.
