The parody franchise that defined an entire generation of comedy is officially making its return. The first official trailer for Scary Movie, formerly titled Scary Movie 6, has finally been released, marking the long-awaited comeback of the iconic horror-comedy series and the return of The Wayans family to the franchise they helped turn into a pop culture phenomenon.
Originally launched in 2000, Scary Movie became a box office smash by hilariously skewering the horror boom of the late ’90s, most notably Scream, while setting the gold standard for modern parody films. Now, decades later, the newly released trailer confirms the revival is embracing both nostalgia and the modern horror era, promising a fast-paced barrage of references aimed squarely at today’s biggest films and cultural conversations.
The trailer wastes no time showing that absolutely nothing is off limits. Among the films and series being parodied are Scream, M3GAN, Friday the 13th, Heart Eyes, Halloween (2018), Ma, Longlegs, Get Out, Weapons, Terrifier, The Substance, Sinners, Smile, Wednesday, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Beyond horror, the film also appears ready to tackle modern social commentary head-on, taking comedic swings at topics including gender identity debates, political party culture, racism, and the internet-driven chaos of contemporary discourse. True to the franchise’s roots, the humor looks bold, chaotic, and intentionally provocative.

One of the trailer’s biggest surprises comes with the on-screen return of Kim Wayans, whose appearance marks a nostalgic and exciting reunion moment for longtime fans of the original era Wayans ( In Living Color) era. Her return signals that this revival is not just a reboot in name, but a genuine homecoming for the creative voices that helped define the franchise’s identity.
Dropping the number from the title and returning simply as Scary Movie places the film alongside recent legacy revivals that blend old-school DNA with a modern reset. With the Wayans officially back and the trailer now unleashed, anticipation is quickly building for what could be one of the most talked-about comedy releases in years.
Scary Movie hits theaters June 12th!
