Sony has officially dropped the first trailer for its upcoming Anaconda reboot, and it’s already turning heads. The film reimagines the iconic 1997 creature feature with a bold new tone, blending high-stakes adventure, razor-sharp comedy, and pure monster mayhem. Starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, the trailer teases two best friends on a jungle filmmaking quest who find themselves hunted by a very real, very massive anaconda. It’s big on laughs, big on nostalgia, and even bigger on snake terror promising to pull in longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Doug (played by Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) are lifelong friends who've always dreamed of remaking their favorite childhood film — Anaconda. Spending years talking about it, they finally decide to make it happen. A midlife crisis pushes them to take the plunge, and they venture deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things take a terrifying turn when a real giant anaconda appears, turning what was supposed to be a passion project into a deadly survival ordeal. What was meant to be the movie of their dreams might just be the movie that kills them.

What makes this reboot stand out is how self-aware and meta it’s shaping up to be. Instead of simply remaking the original, the new Anaconda seems to embrace the absurdity while still honoring the fear factor. Jack Black and Paul Rudd’s chemistry gives the film a buddy-comedy heartbeat, while flashes of intense chase sequences and near-death escapes keep the tension cranked. It’s the kind of tonal balancing act that could breathe new life into a franchise long left dormant.

Behind the camera, director Tom Gormican teams up with co-writer Kevin Etten to deliver a slick, high-energy vision of jungle chaos. The cast surrounding Black and Rudd is stacked Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello all bring an eclectic energy that hints this won’t be a one-note creature flick. Early glimpses of the visual effects suggest a massive scale, with the titular snake now bigger, faster, and more nightmarishly real than ever.

After years of silence, Anaconda is coiling up for a blockbuster comeback. The film slithers into theaters on December 25, 2025, giving horror and adventure fans something wild to unwrap this holiday season.
