[TRAILER]: The Hidden Easter Eggs in the New 'SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE' Teaser Trailer Fans May Have Missed!

A New Galaxy of Mario: What the Trailer Teases and What’s Coming

Nintendo and Illumination dropped the teaser trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this morning, confirming what fans have been speculating for months. The sequel to the hit Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) is officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It’s set to launch in theaters on April 3, 2026 in the U.S. alongside returning voices like Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek).

For many, the Mario universe has always meant nostalgia. The first film was a worldwide hit, blending beloved game music themes, iconic characters, and bright visuals to please longtime fans as well as newcomers. The world-building in Super Mario Bros. Movie leaned heavily on the Mushroom Kingdom imagery, classic power-ups, and characters that fans have known for decades. Now, with Galaxy, there’s a promise of expansion literally outwards into space, new worlds, new stars, and likely more cameos and nods to Mario history.

Before we beak it all down, watch the teaser for yourself.

Here’s what we noticed in the teaser trailer. First, there’s the moment of Mario sleeping under a tree in the Mushroom Kingdom something that feels like a throwback to Super Mario Bros. 2, which introduced dreams, naps, and more surreal, whimsical gameplay moments. Then, the trailer’s brief musical cues feel inspired by Super Mario World, especially the lighter, melodic styles that evoke riding through grassy plains and calmer levels. Finally, the trailer ends with visuals that clearly hint toward Super Mario Galaxy-style space themes stars, cosmic vistas, and travelling through the cosmos. Taken together, it feels like Illumination is building up to making this movie not just a continuation, but a celebration of different eras of Mario.

For fans excited by every detail, here’s what to look out for: will Rosalina appear? Will there be Lumas and Power Stars (key mechanics in Galaxy)? Which older game soundtracks get sampled or reimagined? The trailer doesn’t answer everything, but it’s clear the film aims to honor Mario’s past while shooting for something bigger. If everything hinted at truly makes the cut, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could become a landmark not just of animated gaming movies, but franchises that lean into their own history in bold, thoughtful ways.
