‘West Side Story’ Lead Star Rachel Zegler Posts She Isn’t Invited to the Oscars!

West Side Story seems to be making a lot of noise during this years award season. Particularly making a lot of noise around this years, soon to air, Academy Awards 2022! With seven nominations including Best Supporting Actress for Co-Star Ariana DeBose, and Best Picture, it appears that there will an abundance of celebrating from the cast and crew. But one particularly important cast member may just be celebrating from home.

Lead star Rachel Zegler had made a comment on social media to a fan about not having received an invitation at all to the Academy Awards later this month.

On Sunday, the actress, 20, posted a series of images on her personal Instagram account along with the caption “a quarter of the year well spent.” In the comments section, a fan wrote: “Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.” Zegler responded directly to that person, writing: “I'm not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.”

That's right, it appears that The Academy Awards had no plans on inviting the lead star to one of 2021's biggest films. Big enough to receive seven major nominations but, but not big enough to invite the entire main cast. And the people are not happy about it at all!

One twitter use posted a screen shot of Zegler's Instagram post that then caused a chain reaction f support for the 20 year old actress.

Zegler then took to Twitter to thank her fans for the support and clarify her understanding that “a lot of work” goes into film productions and award shows.

In which One Day at a Time co-showrunner and With Love creator, Gloria Calderón Kellett lashed at the ABC Network in response:

Does the Academy have a lot of explaining to do? What are your thoughts CritiX?

The 94th Academy Awards are set to take place March 27, with Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes serving as hosts.
