Yesterday Today Forever: We Discovered a Powerful Indie Gospel Film on the Rise Premieres This Sunday

By Klep Napier | Wearecritix.com

While keeping tabs on upcoming releases beyond the studio system, we recently came across a spiritual indie film that stopped us in our tracks. Titled Yesterday Today Forever (YTF), the project has been quietly building momentum for years and is now set to celebrate its long-awaited premiere this Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Duluth, Georgia. It’s the kind of discovery that reminds us why digging through the independent circuit still matters.

Created by Domingo Guyton, co-writer, producer, and CEO of DEECO Enterprises LLC, Yesterday Today Forever reimagines the story of Peter’s denial of Jesus Christ through a modern-day lens rooted in Atlanta culture, hip-hop, and faith. Written by Guyton alongside Siddeeqah Powell, and directed by Ty Manns, the film explores what it means to wrestle with belief, guilt, and redemption in a world that constantly tests conviction. The cast includes Curtis Nelson II, Jasmine Burke, John Bentley, Tina Witherby, and Lucius Rouser IV, who portrays Jesus Christ in a grounded, human portrayal central to the story’s emotional weight.

Before audiences experience the full film, the journey begins with a look at what inspired it all. The premiere event will feature a double screening, starting with the original 2012 short film that sparked the idea, followed by the completed 2025 feature presentation, capped off with dinner and a live Q&A with Guyton and members of the cast and crew.

The story follows Pete, a strong-willed man whose life is unraveling as he confronts unresolved trauma tied to the death of his closest friend, Jesus Christ. Through therapy sessions and rising external threats, Pete is forced to face his faith head-on and decide whether he will carry forward Jesus’ message or retreat from it. The film’s themes of doubt, devotion, accountability, and transformation feel intentionally timeless, echoing the scripture it draws inspiration from while grounding itself firmly in the present day.

What truly elevates Yesterday Today Forever beyond a traditional gospel film is its ambitious soundtrack, which functions as a companion piece rather than background noise. The official YTF Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, now available on vinyl and all major streaming platforms, features over 50 artists, including 1K Phew, Canton Jones, Erica Cumbo, Lord Afrixana, Brinson, R-Swift, 404.Chew, and many more. The film’s entire sound design and score were composed by Thomas Dawson Jr., current music director for the Grammy Award–winning group The Commodores, blending contemporary hip-hop, gospel, and cinematic scoring into a cohesive spiritual soundscape.

We personally took time to sit with the album ahead of the premiere and broke it down track by track on our new music-focused series Check The Score, where we explore how sound and composition shape storytelling in film. The YTF soundtrack stood out as intentional, layered, and emotionally driven, serving as both worship and narrative reinforcement.

The Yesterday Today Forever premiere takes place Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Eddie Owen Presents at Red Clay Music Foundry, located at 3116 Main Street, Duluth, GA. Doors open at 5pm for the red carpet, followed by dinner, screenings, and a live Q&A. Tickets are available now, with options to pay it forward for community members who may need assistance attending. For those outside the area, the team is actively working toward additional screenings and a broader digital release in 2026.

This is exactly the kind of independent project we love spotlighting. One built with patience, faith, and purpose, created outside the traditional system but driven by a clear creative vision. Yesterday Today Forever isn’t just a film premiere. It’s the culmination of more than a decade of belief, storytelling, and community coming together.
