Last night The Critics Choice Association (CCA) hosted its inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards on The CW. The show was hosted by writer-director Kevin Smith and actress Dani Fernandez, following the lead of many other televised awards ceremonies in the past 10 months by filming while under strict Covid-19 safety protocols without a live audience.
The Super Awards honor the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero/Comic Book, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, Action and Animation. And while The ceremony honored the greats in fandom such as Love Craft Country, Vikings, West World and Soul, Amazon’s The Boys led series wins with four trophies.
However, we could not ignore the elephant in the room. This was a "fandom" awards so to speak. With the focus on Super-hero/Comic Book and fantasy, but not single Marvel Studios property received a nod last night. Not even a nomination? Very confusing. Instead Every CW/DC comic property and indie Comic property received nominations and even took home wins.
And so we don't sound too bias here, how about the fact that not even a single major DC film was nominated except for Harley Quinn's Birds Of Prey. I mean we're talking about the best of the best here, right?
Overall the show went down pretty well with the except of a few snubs in the community of fandom and geek culture. We just don't see how this list could have gotten past any one. But for those of you who missed out here is the full list of winners. We guarantee you will see at least two or more whom you will cheer for!
